CIDM Conference: Managing change in a VUCA World

This morning I presented at the CIDM ConVEx Conference. As a virtual conference being held over lots of different timezones, 18 countries and nearly 400 participants, it was really exciting to be a part of this conference! convex Today’s topic was a brand-new topic for me to present so i was really excited to share this topic and my knowledge with the CIDM Community. What was the conference about? ConVEx is a fully virtual experience for Content Developers. What I really like about this conference organiser is that they do not try to replace a physical conference but instead look at what they can do to supplement a completely online experience. On Monday evening, they had a virtual illusionist as part of their Happy Hour and continued to have several different tracks running for every interest in the content community. This was my third time presenting at a CIDM conference and I always really enjoy participating and taking part in the event. Another element where the CIDM team excel at is their social experience platform. Not only is there a thriving Slack group for the conference, where you can contact the presenters, other attendees and discuss the topics that you’re seeing but at every extended break there is always something going on! There’s a few prize give aways ongoing and it’s nice to be able to network and connect directly. My Topic: convex summary The content of the topic was: Managing Change in a VUCA world and was a topic that I’ve been thinking about a lot recently. The changes that we have gone through in the past year have really affected every organisation, every team and more importantly every person. How we react to change, the speed that we need to work and the way that we support our teams has changed. During the session I covered the following:
  • What is VUCA?
  • What does it really mean to you? To your organisations? To your teams?
  • How does VUCA affect you as a leader?
  • Do you have the tools to be able to manage your change successfully?
  • Understanding change within your organisation
  • Supporting your team through change
All of these topics are really important for me as a Leader but I wanted to bring this knowledge as someone who has been actively managing this the past year, has made mistakes and wanting to share my experience and what worked for me. One of the most exciting things for me is to be able to have a “Candid Conversation” with the attendees. CIDM host their rooms a little differently, so there are a maximum number of participants available to access a room and an active moderator who helps facilitate the Q&A and enables the participants to really get a chance to grill the presenters! This is great as I can really help others and share knowledge on ‘real life scenarios’ or issues that others are having. Conclusion: If you’re looking for a great collaborative (and fun!) conference, please take a look at this conference and all that it has to offer!
